Senate
The senate, yesterday, granted the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the state of  in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

This is even as it summoned all Service Chiefs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to appear before it over the current state of security and the success or otherwise of the emer-gency rule in the affected states since its declara-tion six months ago.
No date for their appearance was given just as no reason was given for inclusion of the Foreign Affairs Minister in the invitation.
Senate said its action was to give “more time to the military to restore full and lasting peace to the three states” even as it noted that commendable progress had been recorded in the affected states.
However, Senate, at a plenary, presided over by Ike Ekweremadu, said it approved the extension of the emergency rule “on the same terms and conditions as earlier approved and gazetted.”
The approval of the Senate was sequel to a motion entitled Exten-sion of State of Emergen-cy in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, sponso-red by the Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (PDP, Cross River Central).
