Abacha’s loot: S’Court decides January 17
The Supreme Court has set aside January 17, 2014 to deliver judgement in the case involving Mohammed Sani Abacha, the eldest surviving son of the late head of state, General Sani Abacha.
Mohammed Sani Abacha has challenged the over 100-count criminal charge slammed on him at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja for allegedly receiving stolen money belonging to the Federal Government.
While arguing the appeal, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Joseph B Daudu, counsel to Mohammed Abacha informed the court that since the stolen money were returned into the coffers of the Federal Government, it would be unlawful to further prosecute Abacha.
He mentioned Section 5 of Decree 53 of 1999 which prevented the prosecution of the accused who had forfeited the money that were said to have been stolen.
